FAQs

Q. How do I protect my timber door after purchase?
A. First, store your door in a dry place, laid flat. (Never store the door in freshly plastered rooms or lay a door on freshly laid concrete floors).

Without delay - and with the door in a flat position - apply a good quality varnish or paint to all external and internal doors. Ensure you fully coat the susceptible top and bottom edges of the door to seal against moisture that could cause the door to split or warp. Be sure to use a high quality product and carefully follow the manufacturers directions.

Q. My door will be exposed to direct sunlight. Is there anything I need to take into account?
A. Steer clear of dark colours. Dark colours absorb more sunlight, retaining heat that may split or warp the timber.

Q. Should I touch up the paint/varnish on my doors?
A. Absolutely. Regular touch-ups will improve the finish and protect the timber from deterioration.

Q. Why does the timber have a slight colour and/or texture variation?
A. This is part of the natural beauty of timber - it adds to its charm! If you are concerned that the difference falls outside of this natural variation, please contact your retailer before installation.

Q. What are raised mouldings?
A. Raised mouldings, also known as bolection mouldings, are separately machined timber pieces that are fixed to the face of the door, generally around panels or glass openings. This type of moulding is featured on our 300, 400 and 700 Series doors.

Q. What is a fielded panel?
A. Fielded panels are the timber panels with scalloped edges. These panels can be found on our 200, 300 and 400 series doors.

Q. Do doors come in standard sizes?
A. The standard height of most doors is 2040 mm; however 2340 mm is becoming more common and is now available in selected styles. The standard widths are 355, 405, 455, 520, 620, 720, 770, 820, 870, 920 and 1020 mm. Internal doors are usually 35 mm thick and external 40 mm. Not all doors are available in all sizes.

Q. How much can I trim off the door?
A. The door can be trimmed up to 5mm on the sides and 15mm from the top and bottom. Trimming more than these amounts from the door can cause the door to twist or warp and will void the warranty.

Q. How are the doors constructed?
A. All our doors are constructed using solid timber stiles, rails and mullions. Fielded panels are constructed from laminated timber pieces. The 600 and 700 series doors use a veneered mdf panel. The 500 series features solid timber stiles and rails with 12 mm lining boards on an insulating polystyrene core.

Q. Where does the timber come from?
A. All the timber used in our doors is sourced from sustainably managed forests. We currently source our timber from Malaysia from MTCC / PEFC certified forests.
